- Studied at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna
- Worked in Otto Wagner’s architectural practice
- Founding member of the Vienna Secession
- Artistic director of the Wiener Werkstatte and professor
- Primarily an architect, but created work in all branches of the workshop
